Wife and MUM 11/2011

Sunday 24 July 2011

WOW!, time really flies. It was 4 months since I wrote. We just got back from church after attending service and also a session of choir practice. Irene likes to sing and she has that sweet soft melodious voice that is quite enjoyable to listen to. She is not a very good singer but had improved tremendously since our choir had a new choir master. David the Kuala Lumpur Baptist Church (KLBC) choir master would put the choir through a round of vocal practice before the practice proper. This had really helped the entire choir members and that includes Irene.

Upon stepping into the house, the first thing Irene did was rushed into the kitchen to check on her directive for her daughter. Before we left for church, Irene had peeled and cut up two pieces of pumpkin, cleaned it with filtered water and then placed them nicely and neatly into the Tupperware. In the car, on the way to church, she told her daughter “pour hot water into the slow cooker and put the pumpkin inside when you get back from church”. Her daughter replied, ”Yes”. I sent my daughter and grandson back home after the church service while Irene stayed back for the choir practice. This explains why Irene checked on the pumpkin first – to ensure her 6 month old grandson is fed well with good, healthy and nourishing food. That’s the way of a mother and grandma.

Irene then changed her clothes and then went straight to play with her grandson. It was a joy to see them both laughing and playing together.
Her daughter and grandson had brought great joy to her and she works hard to keep healthy. This brings to mind the song sung by Tevye, the milkman sang in the movie, Fiddler on the Roof,   at his daughter’s wedding.
Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
            I don’t remember growing older
            When did they?

            Sunrise, sunset; sunrise, sunset
            Swiftly fly the years
            One season following another
            Laden with happiness and tears.

Yes, HOW TIMES FLY. Irene must have watched her daughter grown up and now she is watching her grandson growing up. She had often given thanks to God for the years that went by and prayed that she will live well the years to come in accordance with His (God) will.

May they have many, many , many more years together.

No 11 attribute of a great wife:  Cherish the years that went by and live well the years that are left.

Cheers.
Hope to see you soon.
