Wife and MUM 07/2013 – Hair Style

Are you meticulous with how your hair looks?

Irene is a very artistic lady. Her sense of form and pattern gives her an advantage over many when it comes to appreciation of beauty in art, nature and life.

When she buys an item, be it a pair of shoe, a dress or even a bar of soap, Irene would check in detail for the slightest flaw. This does not mean she is a perfectionist as she will overlook slight flaws if it fits the situation. The benefit to herself and to the family is that she ensures there is value in things she purchases.

Her philosophy: "When I was young, we were very poor. We could not afford a lot of things. Nevertheless, I would rather purchase a good pair of shoe that cost more than to pay less and buy many pairs”

I had heard numerous times her statement for beauty and quality. I have seen countless times her eye for beauty. Will narrate these some other times.

One example on her appreciation of beauty is her care for her hair. Being a hair stylist herself, she is very particular about how she appears and the condition of her hair.

At this point, let me let you into a secret. The first time I met her was in my sister’s house. She is a friend of my niece. When I saw her, the first thought that cross my mind was “WOW, a nice hair cut”

After getting to know her, Irene asked, “ what is it that you like about me?”
My answer, YES, you guessed it “Your hair”

Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.

Questions for reflection:
1. What are the things that you are meticulous on?
2. How does that characteristic define you in life?

Cheers.
Hope to see you soon.

Wife and MUM 06/2013 – Irene’s Humor

Irene have a great sense of humor underneath her silent, sweet and elegant demeanor. It is always a pleasure to see her narrating her experiences to her daughter. She would get her daughter in stitches of laughter, delight and joy.

Once she was telling her experience as a young girl watching her neighbor’s pet monkey playing with a toad that the monkey caught. The toad in the monkey's hand would bloat up and croak. The monkey would then bring the toad to its ear, listening for the sound made with curiosity.
Picture now in your mind Irene holding the toad in her hand, looking at it intensely and curiously. Smelling it. Then slowly sliding the toad under her armpit. Irene then laughs, getting her audience laughing along. Then taking it out of her armpit and start pulling the toad's leg. Irene’s actions really got the attention and laughter of those listening to her story. This is Irene the humorous storyteller.

“If you wish to glimpse inside a human soul and get to know a man, don't bother analyzing his ways of being silent, of talking, of weeping, of seeing how much he is moved by noble ideas; you will get better results if you just watch him laugh. If he laughs well, he's a good man.”

This morning we went to purchase “Chee Cheong Fun” for breakfast.
I was telling Irene that the amount of chili sauce was too little. Her off hand comment was “The chili sauce is very high in protein. It is enough” followed by “Often fermented chilies are used to produced the sauce and worms are a common sight”.
Heem... now I know where the proteins come from. Nevertheless the chili sauce is delicious.

“I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.”  Audrey Hepburn

Questions for reflection:
1. Under what situations would humor be appropriate?
2. Is humor one of your natural traits?
3. What can you do to raise your humor quotient to an acceptable level?

Cheers.
Hope to see you soon.
